Chittagong Association of North America Inc. (CANAI) also known as Chattogram Shomity is a  501 (c)(3)non-profit organization was first established on 23rd July, 1989 at New York by 25 to 30 enthusiastic youngsters who were present at that time in the United States to serve the Chattogram community residing in North America. It was incorporated as a community based social and charitable organisation on 21st January, 1997 named “Chittagong Association of North America Inc. It is an US based 501 (c)(3) not for profit organization.

As a non-profit organization, CANAI is committed to giving back to the community through charitable initiatives and social services. The association actively participates in relief efforts during natural disasters and supports various philanthropic causes in Bangladesh and North America.

Overall, the Chittagong Association of North America Inc. strives to create a strong sense of community, preserve the culture and heritage of Chattogram, and make a positive impact on the world through charitable and social initiatives.

The association is dedicated to promoting and preserving the culture, traditions, and values of the Chattogram region, while also providing a platform for social, cultural, educational and charitable activities.

Headquarters:
Chittagong Association of North America Inc., had opened its headquarters at Brooklyn, New York by buying its own building named “Chattogram Bhaban” at 545 McDonald Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11218, also known as Little Bangladesh.

Regional Coverage Areas of Chattogram:
The resident of the following areas are eligible for Association’s member:
Mirsharai, Sitakunda,Fatikchhari, Hathazari, Raozan, Rangunia, Boalkhali , Patiya, Anwara, Chandanaish, Banshkhali, Satkania, Lohagara, People of Upa-zilas and Pourosova in Cox’s Bazar, Rangamati, Bandarban and Khagrachari.

About History of Chattogram City:
Chattogram is a city in southeastern Bangladesh, located on the banks of the Karnaphuli and also on the Bay of Bengal. It is the second-largest city in Bangladesh after Dhaka and is a major commercial, industrial, and educational center. It is also the largest seaport and the second largest sea beach named "Patenga"  in the country including the first largest sea beach named "Cox's Bazar" in the world, and plays a vital role in the economy of Bangladesh, serving as a gateway for international trade.

The city has been ruled by various empires and dynasties over the centuries, including the Maurya Empire, the Gupta Empire, and the Mughal Empire. In modern times, Chattogram played a significant role in the Bangladesh Liberation War of 1971, as it was the site of many battles between Pakistani and Bengali forces.

Chattogram is known for its natural beauty, with hills, forests, and beaches nearby.  Chattogram is also home to a number of cultural landmarks and attractions, it is also home to several universities and educational institutions, as well as industries such as textiles, pharmaceuticals, and shipbuilding. 
The city has a diverse population, with Bengalis, Chakmas, and Rohingyas among the ethnic groups represented and is a rich cultural heritage, with influences from Bengali, British, and Portuguese traditions.
